I also wish to thank my predecessor, Mayor John Valdini of Brightwaters for his outstanding leadership as he navigated us through some difficult issues and congratulate him on his many years of service to his Village and our County.\n<\/p>\n<p>As I begin my term, I seek to build on the many things that we have achieved in the SCVOA over these last few years.   As an organization, we fought to protect our \u201chome rule\u201d by taking a stand against an attempted state mandate for Accessory Units in our Residential Zones.  While we all agree that there is a housing shortage, it cannot be legislated on the back of working folks, who wish to keep our Villages like the suburbs we chose to set our roots down in.\n<\/p>\n<p>As we embark on this new chapter together, I am inspired by the collective expertise and passion of our Executive Board members, village mayors, and Associate Members. Our influence counts but only when we use it to its full potential.<br \/>\nI see the diversity of experience that the members of our Executive Committee bring to the table.  We have local leaders of all stripes and backgrounds and most importantly, a desire to work hard for their communities.  We have shown it the last few years, but now we need to fight even harder as there are those who seek to eliminate Villages from the Governmental structure.<br \/>\nOur 32 Villages have their own uniqueness but also have many of the same issues, especially the dreaded \u201cunfunded mandate.\u201d Our greatest strength is our unity.
